NYE

I get really excited about sharing things I'm passionate about with others. Bad weddings, for example. I find that when weddings come up in conversation, I want to talk about the bad ones I read about, and if this conversation happens at my house, inevitably I'll pull out the most recent MS Mag Wedding Registry. Which I always find fun. But the BF? (and for that matter, all other men around) He doesn't get it.
I say this b/c I've been asked to bring my copy of the new Mag tonight to the NYE celebration. And since I haven't yet mailed off the 2 extra copies for friends, that means I could bring THREE copies. Which isn't enough for everyone, but we could have a pretty awesome dinning room full of crazy women reading about women made insane by their weddings. Trying to figure out if this is the beginning of an awesome "twenty-dime" or not. Any thoughts?

The new frat party

The trend this year seems to involve adding in the best of a drunken night at the KA house. There were several that included "late night dinning" with sliders and fries (and one couple loved their guests so much, they fed them chicken on a stick). But only at the Inman-McElhaney wedding (A191) were "guests encouraged to stay on the dance floor by DJ Trey Alexander or go to the patio, where a beer pong tournament was held."
I have a few questions.
1. Was the bride's "something new" a new funnel?
2. Did they serve Natty Lite and Purple Jesus?
3. Did they make "the bride's boxer dog, Tinkerbell, also served as a bridesmaid" participate in the tournament?

"If you can't say anything nice about anyone else, come sit next to me." — Gertrude Stein

I got home from a long drive home after Christmas. My BF beat me to my house, and in my mailbox was the new MS Mag. He knew any plans for spending an evening together were hopeless--we wouldn't be hanging out anytime soon. I had a mission.
I did a quick look-over, and already had a few favorites.
No pictures of near-dead hospice patients (can't seem to find that right now from last year's edition; will try to hunt down later to share).
Not all that many pictures of pets.

Next part of the plan is to check out each and every advertisement. That's what the announcements might as well be. And some were more obvious ads than others:
"The couple hopes to return to Mississippi, where Brad can continue to provide specialized care to patients with kidney disease requiring dialysis and transplant" (Coulombe-Arbogas, page A23-24).
"the bride is currently designing and developing a clothing line" (Coleman-Norman, A21-22) (note: more to come on this one).

Others are more like ads for the people who did the work at the wedding. For instance, the Griffin-Copeland wedding (A47-48) included lots of info on who designed the bride's gown. It was a "custom designed gown by 'Project Runway' designer Heidi Elnora." I've watched PR the past few seasons, but didn't recognize this name. So I had to do some searching. Here is a little of what I found:
www.heidielnora.com
I wasn't sure what "Found the one" meant. Maybe it was referring to the groom, but so rarely do wedding websites give a damn about him. He's less important than the decision for what will be the "something blue". "The one" is the dress, of course. The first page had a doozie: Haleigh Stidham Blackwell (it's location has since changed, it was a 6/09 wedding). I'm not sure what Dress #2  was for. (Clearly, Haleigh is still struggling with "The One" since she has 2 dresses.) Kinda reminds me of Little Bo Peep. But in white. Was this for the Reception? So many questions.
For the best, though, you have to keep searching back to May 2007. There you will find Nicole Richter Thorp, posed with who I'm guessing is a bridesmaid. (Note: no way in hell I'd show up for a 'bridesmaid photo shoot' like this). In the birdcage are the letters "HE". I'm not sure where "LP" went, but without the last 2 letters, Bridesmaid, I know how you feel.

Best Christmas gift!

Every year, Mississippi Magazine sends me the best gift imaginable: The Wedding Register.

Brides actually paid as much as $1095 to print embarrassing photos and stories for me to laugh at. I've been posting comments on Facebook with "highlights". I've known awhile that I wanted a blog, I just couldn't figure out what I'd write about. I think I've found my calling.
